Whimsy Stamp Tutorial Storage Box

Today I will share with you a tutorial for a card storage. There will fit all the A2 card format (US version), also envelopes. No more times you don't know, where you can storage your cards. I will show this tutorial in Inch. Here you can see the finish box... Now it is time to create your own one. 

I wish you fun with crafting. I prepare a PDF, so you can print. Please don't share it, it is only for your use it personell, not for business. 

Heute werde ich Euch eine Anleitung zeigen, wie man Karten ordnen kann, nie wieder ein Durcheinander. Die Karten, welche in diese Box passen, sind auf A2 (USA Format) zugeschnitten. In dem Tutorial werde ich mit Inch arbeiten. Hier siehst Du die fertige Box, eigentlich ganz einfach... Probiere es aus und habe Spass dabei :) Ich habe mir die Mühe gemacht ein PDF zu schreiben, allerdings ist dieses nur auf Englisch erhältlich. Bitte teile dieses nicht, es ist nur für den persönlichen/ privaten Gebrauch erlaubt.

What is the idea behind?

Maybe you have a lot of crafted cards and you haven't really a place for storage them, maybe they will be in a plastic container... or they are all not sorted... Maybe it looks like on this picture?

I have different boxes, but not really one with an index. My husband said, I need a card for a birthday, do you have one? Yes, somewhere, I must search and here is one... I need more storage, better system to find it faster. So I decided me to craft a box, like this. I haven't enough time, so the project must be time saving...  Crafted in no time. I thought about, that I want to invite me to look at all the steps. So sorry, I haven't time to make a video, so it is only on the blog and on an PDF (English).

Vielleicht sieht es bei Dir ähnlich aus. Wir basteln jeden Monat ein paar Karten und eigentlich haben wir nicht wirklich einen Ort, wo man die Karten aufbewahren kann. Ein paar Plastikboxen, aber kein Ordnungssystem. So sind die Karten unsortiert in einer Schachtel, aber wenn man eine Karte sucht, braucht dies Zeit. Ich dachte ich brauche etwas mehr Ordnung in meinen Zimmer und natürlich bei den Karten. Wer mich kennt, der weiss, dass ich nicht wirklich viel Zeit habe. So überlegte ich mir ein Projekt, das nicht viel Zeit benötigt.  Da ich vor allem A2 US Format Karten bastel, lag es nah in dieser Grösse etwas zu entwerfen. Nun möchte ich Dich einladen, mich Schritt für Schritt zu begleiten und wer weiss, vielleicht findest Du die Idee super und bastelst gerade mit. Ich habe auch ein PDF erstellt, wegen Zeitgründen ist dies nur auf Englisch, aber fühl Dich frei mich hier zu folgen. Solltest Du dennoch Fragen haben, dann gebe mir Bescheid, ich werde diese früher oder später beantworten ;)

How I do this box?
Wie mache ich diese Box?

Cardstock 12x12 Inch, I use brown color. Now you need a scoring tool and score all sides at 3 Inch and cut like on the picture. 

Ich benutze Cardstock 12x12 Inch (30x30cm), es ist eine Art Karton, welcher am Ende eine Packung Papiere angebracht ist. Dieser ist etwas dicker und eignet sich sehr gut. Ich falte alle Seiten auf 3 Inch (ca. 7.6cm) Dabei drehe ich das Papier im Uhrzeigersinn. Danach schneide ich es wie auf dem Bild abgebildet ist ein.

Dies wird die Basis sein für die Box für A2 Karten (USA Format). 

Wenn Du lieber Karten möchtest für Europäische Masse, dann brauchst Du eine Basis von 16.5cmx16.5cm, d.h. 6 1/2 Inch square. Das bedeutet, dass Du anstatt bei 3 Inch bei 2.75 Inch (7 cm) falten musst. Denke daran auch die anderen Masse anzupassen, d.h. dass die Unterteilung bei 16.3cm x 12.0cm wäre. Würde mich freuen, wenn Du Dein Werk zeigen könntest. 

Now glue the box together, use wet glue, this will be better, it is robust.

Nun klebe die Box mit flüssigen Kleber zusammen, dieser ist stabiler und robuster, als doppelseitiges Klebeband. 

Now I use Distress Oxide Ink for all the edges and the side's.

Nun distress ich alle Seiten und Ecken an der Oberkante. 

My box is ready to decorate. You can use what you prefer. I use digital paper from Whimsy. I opened the paper in view and click to print. I have A4 paper here and so I want to fill the whole paper. So a fit the size from the paper to 200% and print it on regular paper. Please feel you free, if your cardstock is thiner than my one, I would use cardstock too. This will give the box a better hold, stable. 

Meine Box ist nun fertig zum Dekorieren. Bitte fühl Dich frei und dekoriere diese nach Deinen Wünschen. Ich habe hier digital Papier von Whimsy genutzt. Dabei habe ich das Papier im Programm Vorschau geöffnet (MAC), danach habe ich auf Drucken gedrückt. Im neuen Fenster habe ich die Grösse auf 200% gestellt, so dass es das gesamte Papier füllt. Sollte deine Box aus dünnerem Cardstock bestehen, dann nehme lieber Cardstock zum Drucken, nicht das Druckerpapier. Damit wird Deine Box stabiler. 

I cut the printed paper in 2 pieces of 2 3/4x 8Inch and 2 pieces of 2 3/4x 6Inch and glue it to the box. At first I use the bigger pieces, than the smaller one. I found a ribbon in my stuff and glue it around the box and add a bow on the side where the ribbon comes together. 

I want to write to the box, what is inside. I used the retired letter die cuts from Whimsy ( I love them), maybe one time they come back. I cut the word CARDS, form a paper, which I distress before with an grey tone. At last I add a few charms to the box. 

Ich schneide nun das ausgedruckte Papier auf folgende Grösse: 2x 2 3/4Inch (7cm) x8Inch (20.3cm) und zweimal auf 2 3/4 (7cm) x 6 Inch (15.2cm) und klebe es an die Box. Zuerst die grossen Stücke, dann die kleineren. Ich habe im meinen Bastelzimmer noch Band gefunden und dachte, es sei eine tolle Idee, dieses zu nutzen. Also klebte ich es rund um die Box und dort, wo die Bänder zusammenkommen klebte ich eine Schleife drüber. Als nächstes wollte ich meine Box anschreiben. Ich benutze hier die Buchstabe von einer Stanze, welche es im Moment nicht mehr zu kaufen gibt, aber ich mag die so sehr, vielleicht gibt es diese irgendwann wieder. Ich stanze das Wort CARDS... (Karten) von einen Papier, dass ich zuvor mit einen grauen Tone von Distress behandelt habe. Zum Schluss bringe ich noch ein paar Charms an der Box an. 

 

The box is finish, it need only the inserts. Here I used colorful cardstock. I cut them into rectangle size 4 1/2 Inch  x 5 15/16Inch. I used my Brother Label machine to write to the insert. I subdivide in follow parts: Birthday, Thank You, Congratulation, Love, Holiday, Other, Inserts, A2 Cards and Envelopes. You can use what you prefer, maybe more or less of them. 

Meine Box ist fertig. Nun brauche ich noch die Unterteilung in der Box. Hierfür schneide ich mir aus bunten Cardstock Rechtecke ind er Grösse 4 1/2 (11,5cm) x 5 15/16 (14.9cm) zurecht. Nun brauche ich die Unterteilungen nur noch anzuschreiben. Dafür benutze ich meine Brother Label Maschine. Ich unterteile die Box in Geburtstag, Danke, Gratulation, Liebe (Hochzeit, Geburt, Jahrestage), Feiertage ( Ostern, Weihnachten, etc.), Karteneinlagen (dies ist Papier, wo man etwas drauf schreiben kann und in die Karte legen/ kleben), A2 Karten (amerikanische Format, zusätzliche Karten), Briefumschläge.

Hier kannst Du aber frei entscheiden, was für Dich Sinn macht.

Whimsy Stamps Tutorial Shaker Card and Shadow Box Card

I am so excited to show you the first tutorial from this year.
You will also find a post at the Whimsy Blog, just click here (a shorter version).

A special card, but what? I wasn't sure, which kind of tutorial I will made. I think about and take all my Whimsy crafty stuff. As I hold my Shaker Dies in the hand I get an idea.

Why not a combination between two card forms? Can I made a Shaker including a Shadow Box card? Can I manage that the dies fits perfectly? 

This was a challenge to me and I made one card to try and the second card I used for the tutorial.

The first time I saw a Shadow Box, was at a tutorial from Jennifer McGuire. She share a lot of ideas/ brands, gives inspirations and is maybe one the famous card maker, that I know. 

I want to share you a special card, normally we craft two cards, but what is if we combine? It is the first time, that I try a combine card like this one.

What do you need?

You need follow materials: 

• paper (I use card stock, it is a thicker paper 120lb, european is 200g)
• paper trimmer
• scoring board
• acetat foil/ laminated foil
• Big Shot or other die cut machine
• Shaker Card Foam Tape
• Whimsy Stamps metal Craft Die "Shaker Maker Rectangle"
• Whimsy Stamps metal Craft Die "Forest Majesty Die Set"
• Dies from your stuff
• Shaker material, Whimsy have a great selection, for example Sprinkletz or Sprakletz
• for the colorful card, I used Distress Oxide Ink
• Water for Sprinkle (if you love the colorful)
• Watercolor from your stuff
• a lot of fun to create a card

How I made this card?

I show you step by step, how I made this card. Let us start.

You need two sheets of paper  8x5.25 Inch. 

(Sorry, I use this time only Inch, because Whimsy Stamps are an American Company and the measure isn't metric)

I use one paper and fold it in half on the length side, this means at 4 Inch. It looks like a card. After this I use my paper trimmer and cut 0.25Inch strip away. So one side is a little bit smaller.

Now take the second paper and I score it at 0.5, 4 and 4.5 Inch. Fold this, it looks like a box 

(picture 2). 

Now use again the paper trimmer to cut of on the 0.5 Inch side only a tiny strip. 

I  use the smaller Rectangle frame from the Whimsy Die and search a rectangle die from your stuff to cut out the window. You can use the same size, like the inside frame or a little bit taller. I used the second version. That I can center it correctly I lay down the frame, where I want to have them later. Than I use my pencil to mark it. After than I center the window die and hold them in place with tape.

Now I have my window and I framed it. You can see it on the second picture. 

Masking technique 

I use here paper #1 and mask the 4 Inch side, so I can work on the smaller side. I want to color it. I also mask a circle on the card. This should be later the moon. 

I used my Distress Oxide Inks for fast blending (Seedless Preserve, Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass).  After blending I add sprinkle (White, Gold and Interference Blue). 

I used my heat tool for dry the colors. I remove the mask and color a few details to the moon.

I prepare all die cuts for my project. I used already the inner frame. I used the remaining paper to cut out some snowbanks. 

I began to decorate and than I thought it will be easier to glue the window paper into the card. So I can look exactly where I want the scene. For this I used dopple sided glue tape on the smallest scoring edge (here the 0.5 side). I lay down the inner card (Shadow Box) and closed the card, if you opened it glue perfectly and looks like on the picture. 

Now I finish the decoration.

I turned the card and put dopple side glue tape on the card base (it is the smaller side from the card), than use the paper from the window box and close the card, it fits perfectly and if you open it looks like this.

Tip:

You can finish the card, if you decorate the front,

Shaker Card

I show you how you can made a Shaker on the front side, you can use this technique also for a regular Shaker card. 

I decorate the frame and add an acetate foil to it. I also distressed the fron panel with a lighter version. 

I add foam tape to the frame, but I don't remove all the paper from the tape, because it is easier to add it to the card base. I also add sequins/ glitter/ Shaker material to the same frame, before I add the card. It is a little difficult/ challenging to add the card to the frame.

Now your Shaker and Shadow Box card is finish.

Halloween

Die neue Challenge bei bastel-traum.ch befasst sich mit dem Thema Halloween... Ein Trend aus Amerika..., der die Kinder in der Nachbarschaft immer wieder ermuntert, am Abend vor den Türen zu stehen, Verse aufzusagen in schrecklicher Verkleidung :) und sehnlich auf etwas Süsses warten.

Dieses Mal habe ich mich entschieden, wieder mal ein Tutorial zu erarbeiten. Es lässt sich schnell nacharbeiten und es macht richtig Spass, selbst Kinder lieben dies nachzubasteln...

Zuerst habe ich die Tic Tac Verpackung vermessen. Ich habe die kleineren benutzt. Meine Verpackung ist ca. 3.8cm (rund1.5Inch) breit, ca.1.6cm (5/8Inch) tief und 5.7cm (2.5Inch) hoch. 

Hat jemand von Euch eine Cameo Silhouette? Damit geht es schneller... Ich habe eine Vorlage gemacht und wenn Ihr Interesse habt, werde ich sie Euch zusenden. Leider kann man dieses Format nicht auf diesen Blog hochladen. Bitte tragt Eure E-Mail im Kommentar ein oder meldet Euch hier
Ich werde Euch die Tic_Tac_Vorlage.studio so schnell wie möglich zusenden :)

• Vorlage ausschneiden, besonders gut sieht es auf doppelseitigen Papier aus

•  das Papier falzen, evtl. die Kante mit Distress verschönern

• doppelseitiges Klebeband anbringen, damit das Band besser haftet

• passendes Band heraussuchen und auf den Klebestreifen anbringen

• die Tic Tac Verpackung einlegen und fest zubinden (Knoten oder Schleife) nun noch dekorieren und fertig ist dieses kleine Geschenk 

Tip: 

• auch Stanzen kann man benutzen, hier habe ich die Tim Holtz Stanze Bat&Skull Set,  zudem habe ich meine Stempel von Lawn Fawn benutzt. 
• Noch zwei Wackelaugen dran und voilà... 
• Hintergründe kann man auch mit Stempeln machen, wenn man kein passendes Papier hat...
•  diese kleinen Mitbringsel lassen sich auch zu anderen Anlässen herstellen, nur die Dekoration ändern
